The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) took a significant step towards raising awareness about HIV/AIDS by conducting “Abhivyakti, The Red Show,” a State-Level Inter-College Drama Competition on November 3, 2023, at the Andaman Club. The event brought together students from various colleges across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, highlighting the importance of HIV/AIDS education among the youth.
The competition, featuring nine teams from colleges and institutes across two districts of the A&N Islands, aimed to address crucial topics related to HIV transmission, myths, and misconceptions surrounding the disease, the promotion of the helpline 1097, and information about stigma and discrimination, along with the HIV Act.
The participating teams showcased their dramatic talents while conveying essential messages to the audience. Ms. Razuja Banu and her group from Andaman Law College emerged as the winners, securing the first position, followed closely by Banasree and her group, as well as Keya and her group from Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), who secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The winners of this State-Level competition will move on to the Regional Level, with an opportunity to advance further to the National Level competition, which will be organized by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MoHFW, GoI).
The event served as a platform for the youth to engage in creative expression while also fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention and education. ANACS, in its continuous efforts to combat the HIV/AIDS, encouraged these young talents to be ambassadors of change and agents of awareness, ensuring that the fight against HIV/AIDS remains a priority for the community.
