Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Inspects Great Nicobar Island’s Mega Project Site

Today marks an important visit by Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal, the esteemed Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, as he sets foot on Great Nicobar Island. With a keen focus on infrastructural development, the Minister’s itinerary features an aerial survey of the Galathea Bay Area, the site for the International Container Transshipment Port.

The envisioned International Container Transshipment Port, nestled within the Galathea Bay Area, holds tremendous promise as a project of national significance. Its development, along with associated infrastructure, stands poised to significantly bolster India’s economic landscape.

During his time on the island, the Minister plans to engage in discussions with local public representatives. Additionally, he aims to traverse the Galathea area via road.

Upon concluding his schedule on Great Nicobar, Minister Sonowal will return to Port Blair for further engagements. A meeting with the A & N Administration at Secretariat and a review session with ALHW at Mohanpura are scheduled.

Looking ahead to November 24, the Minister’s agenda includes an aerial survey of the Atlanta Bay in Diglipur and a flyover of the Rani Lakshmibai Shila project site. Departure from Port Blair is scheduled for the afternoon, concluding the visit.

Mr. Sonowal’s visit underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to fostering infrastructural growth, leveraging key areas across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a promising economic future.
