The Andaman & Nicobar Police took a significant stride in combating digital deception by organising a Cyber Awareness Session centered on “Artificial Intelligence and Deep Fake.” Held as part of the recurring ‘Cyber Guruvar’ initiative on November 23, 2023, the session was conducted in a hybrid mode, seamlessly blending physical and virtual participation, facilitated by the Cyber Cell of the A&N Police.

This comprehensive gathering aimed to equip A&N Police officers with a deeper understanding of Artificial Intelligence and its sinister offspring, Deep Fakes. Spearheaded by Mr. Kumar Abhishek, Dy.SP (CID), the session delved into various crucial topics, encompassing Neutral Networks, Synthetic Media, Virtual Influencers, Exploring & Understanding Deep Fakes, and the multifaceted applications of AI in domains such as Healthcare, Entertainment, Journalism, and News Reporting.

In attendance were esteemed figures including SP (CID) Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, accompanied by other senior officers of the A&N Police, underscoring the importance the department places on combating digital fraud and deception.

Mr. Kumar Abhishek, Dy.SP (CID) elucidated on the challenges and concerns stemming from Deep Fakes, citing recent incidents of fraud and impersonation through manipulated content.

This educational endeavour gains added significance in light of Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s recent expressions of concern regarding the misuse of Artificial Intelligence for generating deceptive ‘Deep Fake’ content. Stressing the urgency to educate the public on this issue, his sentiments echo the objectives of the Cyber Guruvar initiative.

Among the invaluable insights shared during the session were practical ways to identify fraudulent videos and audios. Emphasising on clues such as unnatural eye movements, mismatches in colour and lighting, audio quality disparities, artificial facial movements, and anomalous facial feature positioning, attendees were equipped with tangible methods to spot manipulated content.

The general public is urged to stay informed and vigilant about safe online practices. Recommendations included following the Andaman and Nicobar Police on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Koo for regular updates on cyber safety tips.
