A specialised three-day training program aimed at enhancing the proficiency of Medical Officers (Allopathy) in diagnosing and managing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) was successfully conducted at AYUSH Hospital in Port Blair. Running from November 29 to December 1, 2023, the program drew participation from over 20 Medical Officers representing various health institutions across the Union Territory (UT).
The initiative centered on augmenting the participants’ expertise in handling a spectrum of NCDs, aligning with the shared goal of improving healthcare outcomes. The comprehensive training encompassed interactive sessions, case studies, and hands-on learning experiences, focusing on diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Stroke, Oral Cervical and Breast Cancer, COPD, CKD, STEMI, NAFLD, and various lifestyle diseases.
The inauguration of the program was graced by the presence of Dr. Pragya Sharma, Director of ANIIMS, alongside Dr. Shiny Varghese, the Nodal Officer for NP-NCD. Seasoned faculties from esteemed institutions like GB Pant and ANIIMS facilitated the sessions, ensuring enriching insights and fostering engaging discussions on NCD diagnosis and management strategies.
In a bid to address the holistic aspects of healthcare, interactive yoga sessions were seamlessly integrated into the training regimen. Led by experienced Yoga Instructors, these sessions tailored physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques to specifically combat the challenges posed by NCDs.
The successful completion of the program culminated in the distribution of certificates to the participating Medical Officers. Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, and Dr. Pragya Sharma, Director of ANIIMS, presided over the certificate distribution, commending the participants for their active involvement and dedication throughout the training.
Expressing their appreciation for the initiative, both Dr. Suja Antony and Dr. Pragya Sharma highlighted the pivotal role played by such focused training programs in elevating healthcare standards and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting similar future endeavours.
