The Chairman of the ANTCC Campaign Committee, Mr. TSG Bhasker, voiced grave concerns regarding the safety of Islander students stranded in college hostels across Chennai due to the relentless cyclonic weather and subsequent flooding.
Expressing his apprehension, Mr. Bhasker penned a letter directed to the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, urgently appealing for immediate measures to ensure the well-being of these students.
“Chennai is grappling with severe cyclonic weather conditions, resulting in numerous areas being submerged for several days,” stated Mr. Bhasker in his correspondence.
Highlighting the dire situation faced by the stranded students, he emphasized their struggle to access even basic necessities such as regular food supply in the hostels.
“Our students residing in various college hostels in Chennai are experiencing severe hardships, lacking adequate provisions and even food,” added Mr. Bhasker.
Seeking immediate action, Mr. Bhasker earnestly requested the Chief Secretary to swiftly organise the evacuation of these students to the Andaman Guest House, ensuring their safety, sustenance, and comfort. This gesture aims to alleviate the mounting concerns of their families, deeply worried about their well-being amidst the inclement weather conditions.
The appeal underscores the pressing need for immediate intervention to safeguard the Islander students who find themselves stranded in Chennai’s college hostels amid the ongoing tumultuous weather conditions, extending a lifeline to ensure their safety and alleviate distress.
