In a harmonious blend of cultural celebration and community empowerment, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) has announced a 5-day Self-Help Group (SHG) Mela scheduled to run from December 28th to January 1st, 2024. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Island Tourism Festival and to usher in the New Year, this event promises a unique showcase at Marina Park, from 4 pm to 9 pm daily.

The SHG Mela aims to spotlight the talents and products of local Self-Help Groups, offering a platform for members to exhibit and sell a diverse array of handcrafted items. From the renowned Cold Pressed Coconut Oil hailing from Nicobar to an assortment of Home Decors, Bamboo and Cane Handicrafts, Embroidered Clothes, Traditional Delicacies, Souvenirs, Sweets, Pickles, and more, visitors can expect a rich tapestry of indigenous offerings crafted by these talented artisans.

Adding zest to the festivities, the event will feature engaging Musical Shows and Cultural Performances. Local artists alongside the collaborative support of the Art & Culture Department will take centre stage, presenting an enchanting showcase of the region’s artistic heritage.

The organisers have extended a warm invitation to the public, urging them to partake in this celebration of community spirit and cultural diversity. It’s an opportunity not just to savour the homely flavours and treasures on display but also to extend support to the Self-Help Groups, fostering growth within the local community.

This convergence of culture, commerce, and community empowerment is set to create an immersive experience, inviting both residents and tourists to revel in the essence of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ rich heritage.
