An evening of cultural splendour unfolded at the ITF Ground as the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) brought together a group of exceptional artists, headlined by the legendary Odissi dancer Vidushi Madhavi Mudgal. The event, held on December 28, 2023, showcased the rich tapestry of Indian classical dance and music, leaving the audience spellbound.
Madhavi Mudgal, an icon in the world of Odissi dance, graced the stage with her graceful movements, infusing each step with both seamless precision and compelling conviction. Her performance, accompanied by a talented ensemble including instrumentalists and percussionists—Suresh Kumar Sethi (Vocal), Shalakha Rai (Dancer & Student of Madhavi Mudgal), Kiran Kumar (Flute), Jitendra Kumar Swain (Pakhawaj), and Yar Mohammed (Sitar)—transported the audience on an enchanting journey through the captivating realm of Odissi.
Mudgal’s performance was a captivating narrative that delved into various aspects of the Odissi dance form. From an invocation to Lord Jagannath to exquisite renditions like Vasant (Kalidas), Oriya Abhinaya, and Pallavi Shankarabharnam Pallavi, her collaboration with Shalakha Rai in a duet left an indelible mark on the evening’s artistic canvas. Rai’s solo performance in Pallavi (Arabi Pallavi) further delighted the gathering, eliciting thunderous applause and appreciation from the captivated audience.
