Today marked a poignant tribute to a pivotal moment in India’s history as the 80th anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s historic first Tricolour hoisting on Indian Soil was solemnly observed. It was on 30th December 1943, that for the first time ever the Tricolour was hoisted on Indian Soil by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose at Port Blair.
The event unfolded at Flag Point, where the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the A&N Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), raised the National Tricolor in a stirring ceremony.
The commemorative event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including the Chief Secretary (I/C) of the A&N Administration, Shri Nikhil Kumar, PCCF, Dr. T S Ashok Kumar, Adhyaksh of ZPSA, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chairperson of PBMC, Mrs. S Selvi, along with senior officers of the administration, and members of the general public.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s legacy resonated through the air as the National Flag soared high, echoing the historic significance of his brave act eight decades ago. The symbolic gesture at Flag Point not only honoured Bose’s unwavering spirit but also served as a reminder of the enduring values he stood for.
The event was steeped in reverence, commemorating a chapter of India’s freedom struggle that remains etched in the collective memory of the nation. As the flag fluttered majestically against the backdrop of Port Blair’s skyline, it carried with it the indomitable spirit and sacrifice of those who fought for India’s independence.
The commemoration served as a moment of reflection, inspiring all present to uphold the principles of unity, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of freedom—a legacy that continues to guide the nation’s aspirations.
