The North & Middle Andaman District Police is continuing their efforts in combatting the illicit liquor trade, particularly focusing on Handia, illegal sale of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor), and the distribution of illicit drugs. Through a series of regular raids and extensive searches in the jungles, the police, aided by local informants, have persisted in their crackdown on these unlawful activities.

Throughout the month of December 2023, teams from various Police Stations, led by Station House Officers (SHOs) and other officers, conducted raids and orchestrated massive jungle search operations. These relentless efforts resulted in the destruction of approximately 1890 litres of lehan, 4 litres of illicit liquor, and 75 kilograms of Handia. Moreover, 31 cases under Excise Regulation were registered, leading to the seizure of 175 IMFL bottles in different quantities, while 31 individuals were apprehended in connection to these cases.

To reinforce their vigilance, all individuals with previous criminal records are undergoing regular checks by the beat staff, making it increasingly challenging for them to engage in any illegal activities. Additionally, a fresh history sheet has been initiated for bootleggers, enhancing surveillance measures.

The authorities have urged the general public to come forward and share credible information related to any criminal or illicit activities with their nearest Police Station or through the dedicated phone lines – No. 100, 112, and 03192-273344. Informants can be assured that their identities will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided for their cooperation.

The unwavering commitment of the North & Middle Andaman District Police in combating bootlegging and illegal substance distribution underscores their dedication to maintaining law and order in the region.
