Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Committee Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Mr. E.S. Rajesh, District President, BJP, Nicobar District, met the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration on January 9, 2024, to discuss pressing issues concerning Nicobar District. During the meeting Vishal Jolly also discussed the following issues with the Chief Secretary:
Among the prominent issues raised during the meeting was the demand for the regularisation of contractual employees of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), who have diligently served since the inception of the Medical College. Mr. Jolly emphasised the crucial role played by these employees during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that their unwavering dedication merits the regularisation of their services.
Another significant matter brought to the forefront was the fate of ex-Home Guards whose services were either not continued or discontinued. Mr. Jolly extensively discussed the need for re-employment or the continuation of employment for these individuals, many of whom have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to the Home Guards.
Highlighting the valuable contributions of these Home Guards, Mr. Jolly pointed out that most of them are now age-barred, and subjecting them to another physical test would be impractical. He argued that their lengthy service itself is a testament to their continued physical fitness, and age relaxation for all should be positively considered.
The BJP leaders urged the Chief Secretary to address these issues promptly, emphasising the importance of recognising the contributions of these individuals to the community and ensuring rightful treatment.
