In a significant development for the remote Long Island, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, inaugurated a state-of-the-art double-storeyed Inspection Bungalow of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) at Long Island on 14 January 2024.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of distinguished guests, including Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Ankit Yadav, IAS, AC of Middle Andaman, Ms. Sapna Priya, Superintendent of Police for N&MA, Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, DFO of Middle Andaman, Dr. Abdul Qayum, IFS, Pradhan of Long Island, Mr. B. Kamaraju, and other government officials, as well as members of the general public.
The Lt. Governor unveiled the commemorative plaque, officially marking the opening of the double-storeyed Inspection Bungalow. Following the ceremony, he conducted an inspection of the newly constructed facility, accompanied by Mr. Denis, the Executive Engineer of Rangat, who briefed him on the amenities available.
The newly inaugurated Inspection Bungalow boasts five rooms, a dining cum conference hall, and all essential amenities. The Lt. Governor commended APWD for creating a valuable asset that provides accommodation in the remote area. The construction of the Inspection Bungalow incurred a cost exceeding Rs. 73 lakhs, with each room named after the adjoining Islands of Long Island.
Upon his arrival at Long Island Jetty, the Lt. Governor was welcomed by Mr. B. Kamaraju, the Pradhan of Long Island, who presented a flower bouquet. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, AC of Middle Andaman, SP of N&MA, and various other officers. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the development and accessibility of the region.
