Illegally Sawn Padauk Timber Seized, Suspect Apprehended by PS CCS

In a decisive move against illegal logging activities, the PS Central Crime Station (CCS), acting on credible intelligence, successfully seized a significant quantity of illegally sawn padauk timber and apprehended a suspect in connection with the case.

The operation, executed on February 14, 2024, saw a team from the PS Central Crime Station, led by Sub-Inspector Parvash, along with Head Constables Sanjit Madhu and Sanjay Kujur, and Constables Chandran and K. Rajendran, executing a raid based on specific information provided by a reliable source.

During the operation, authorities apprehended one individual identified as Shiv Mondal, aged 54 and a resident of School Line, Port Blair. Mondal was found in possession of 18 pieces of illegal sawn padauk timber, with a total measurement of 0.722 cubic meters. The seized timber pieces varied in size.

Following standard procedure, the illegal timber was confiscated, and Mondal was taken into custody by law enforcement officials. Subsequently, both the suspect and the seized articles were handed over to the Forest Department, Garacharma Range, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
