Andaman & Nicobar Police Launches Capacity Building Campaign for Implementation of New Criminal Laws

In response to the enactment of the new criminal laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita – 2023, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita – 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam – 2023, the Andaman & Nicobar Police has embarked on a comprehensive campaign aimed at enhancing the capacity of all police personnel to effectively implement these laws, commencing from July 1st, 2024.

Under the visionary guidance of Mr. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, and Mr. Amit Shah, Hon’ble Union Home & Co-operation Minister of India, the Andaman & Nicobar Police is dedicated to ensuring that its officers are thoroughly versed with the provisions of the newly enacted laws. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to augment professionalism and service delivery to citizens.

Led by Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, and Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, several committees have been established to oversee the successful implementation of the new laws. These committees encompass the Legal Committee, Training Committee, Technical Upgradation Committee, Financial Committee, and Digital Investigation Committee.

Continuing its proactive efforts, the Andaman & Nicobar Police, under the leadership of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, has forged a collaboration with the Central Detective Training Institute Kolkata, operating under the Bureau of Police Research & Development, Govt. of India. A pivotal training program has been initiated at Police Training School, Prothrapur, from February 29th to March 6th, 2024, catering to 70 officers ranging from Head Constables to Inspectors.

Experts from CDTI Kolkata, including Mr. Pradip Kumar Das, Mr. Sukumar Ghosh, Mr. Ananta Kumar, DySP, and Ct. Rajeev Kumar, are conducting the training sessions. Upon completion, these trained police personnel will be designated as Master Trainers within their respective Police Stations/Units, entrusted with the responsibility of imparting the training to their subordinates.
