A & N Traffic Police Carries Out Special Drive to Check Over-speeding at South Andaman

The Traffic Unit of Andaman & Nicobar Police has been driving various initiatives to curb accidents and fatalities on roads. The latest in its endeavour is the introduction of High-Tech Speed Laser Gun on 27/10/2020 for detection of over speeding by the vehicles in the city as well as on NH-4.

Every year many thrill seekers give away their lives in road accidents. They not only risk their own lives but also put others at risk. While technology has made our lives easier, the element of human error always looms over our heads posing danger. New cars and bikes are launched with engines that are more sophisticated and with improved safety features but even then regularly come across news items detailing casualties due to road accidents. Many of these victim two-wheeler rider & pillion rider have been found not wearing helmets and also over-speeding.

To rein in the menace of over speeding/dangerous driving by vehicles, various drives have been conducted using these newly acquired High-Tech Speed Laser Guns in the accident prone areas like Girls School Road, Haddo foreshore road, Sippighat, Chouldhari, Ograbraj, Tushnabad etc. and the traffic Police has succeeded in challaning 172 vehicles (115 two-wheelers and 57 four-wheelers), that were found over speeding. An amount of Rs. 1, 80, 000/- have been recovered as fine and their driving licenses have been seized and recommended for suspension for three months. Out of these, one car with speed of 93 Km/h on Sippighat main road stretch was caught with the highest speed so far. Apart from the above 172 over-speeding vehicles, during this period, overall 4051 vehicles were also challaned for various offences and Rs. 23,00,000/- fine has been recovered from them.

The Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Police is committed to ensure on-road safety and security of citizens of the Island and appeals to driver/rider not to drive beyond the speed limits and follow the traffic rules.
