Police Seizes Two Cannabis Plants, Arrests Suspect in Shaheed Dweep Drug Bust

In a continued effort to combat drug-related activities, the Shaheed Dweep Police Station has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of an individual and the seizure of two cannabis (ganja) plants. This operation unfolded on September 19, 2023, following credible information received from an informant regarding the cultivation of cannabis plants by a local resident, Rahul Das.

Acting swiftly on this tip, a team led by Sub-Inspector P.R. Pradeep, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Shaheed Dweep, and comprising HC/154 Negal Shah, PC/2819 Abdul Wahab C.P, PC/1533 Apurba Biswas, LPC/2853 Sarita Tigga, and HC(D)/2549 Manoj Kumar Ekka, launched a raid near Nitai Colony in Ward No. 01 of Neil Kendra, Shaheed Dweep.

During the operation, the police arrested Rahul Das, aged 20, a resident of Ramakrishnapur, Little Andaman, who was currently residing near Nitai Colony, Ward No. 01 of Neil Kendra, Shaheed Dweep. The law enforcement officers discovered and confiscated two cannabis plants, measuring 5 feet and 3.5 feet, respectively, which had been cleverly concealed within a half-cut white jerricane, inside the accused’s under-construction house.

A case has been registered against Rahul Das under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at PS Shaheed Dweep. Following his arrest, the accused was presented before the Hon’ble Court, which subsequently remanded him to Judicial Custody.

The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement authorities committed to uncovering any further details related to this drug-related activity. The entire operation was carried out under the watchful supervision of Mr. Manasvi Vashistha, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Swaraj Dweep.
