South Andaman District Police in its continuous crackdown against illegal Narcotics trade in A&N Islands arrested an incoming passenger carrying 5.73 Kg Ganja clandestinely concealed in his luggage on 31/05/2021. Two local drug peddlers were also arrested in connection with this consignment.
Acting on a specific input from a reliable source, a raiding team comprising of SI R.K Mazumder, HC Sunil Singh Yadav, PCs Ashish Kumar Singh and Sonu Yadav of PS Aberdeen and SI Shubham Ghosh, PCs Santosh Kumar and Bipul Halder of PS Chatham were deputed to lay trap and apprehend the suspect with the contraband item. The team intercepted the suspect, Ganesh Bag, S/o Tekbahadur Sing Bag (24)yrs, R/o Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu- 600117, and recovered 5.733 Kg of illicit ganja from his possession. Based on his interrogation, two local drug peddlers namely (1) M.Mahesh Babu S/o Shri Mayadheri (30)yrs R/o Junglighat and (2) Shri Ganga Raj S/o Shri Surya Narayan (39)yrs R/o Junglighat were also arrested for conspiring and helping him. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Sh. Kalaivanan. R, IPS, SDPO, South Andaman.
The South Andaman District Police is taking all possible steps in making these Islands free from drugs and is keeping strict vigil over smuggling and proliferation of narcotics substance in these Islands. General Public is requested to pass on credible information on narcotics substance, illegal sale of liquor, gambling or any other illegal activity on the telephone numbers: 100,112 and 03192-233077. The informer will be suitably rewarded and his/her identity will be kept secret.
