Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has appealed to the youths 18 to 44 years of age to donate blood before going for vaccination from May 1 2021.
BJYM has also organised a blood donation drive at Blood Bank, G.B Pant Hospital, Port Blair from 10 am today (27th April 2021) for the youth to donate blood to ensure continuous supply for those who would need it during the coming days.
As per the norms donation of blood by an individual is not allowed until 28 days from vaccination. The current vaccines in India are two dose vaccines and currently COVISHIELD the vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India is being administered throughout the Islands. The second dose of COVISHIELD is administered 42 Days to 56 days after the first dose. Once vaccination starts from May 1 2021 for those who are 18 years and older, there is a great chance of blood shortages in the blood banks.
The youth of our Islands should definitely support BJYM in their noble deed to ensure availability of blood for the residents of our Islands during the coming months.
