The Central TB Division, MoHFW, Govt. of India has shared the District Wise Indicator of National TB Elimination Programme for the year 2020 during the NPCC Meeting. Nicobar District ranks 7th among all the districts in the country for Prevention and Control of TB.
The Prime Minister of India has set a target of 2025 for elimination of TB from India and the Country is working towards the goal. Tuberculosis is a preventable and curable infectious disease which causes death of thousands of people around the world everyday.
Nicobar District achieved this feat because of its innovative methods. The District Authorities utilised the active surveillance meant for COVID-19 to detect TB cases as well. Further regular monitoring and support to treatment supporters also played a major role.
Dr. Anwar Moosa, District TB Officer, Nicobar District leads the efforts to prevent and control TB in Nicobar District under NTEP and the overall efforts of his team led to Nicobar District achieving the feat of 7th Rank among all districts of the Country in Prevention and Control of TB.
