Dr. Kumar Gaurav (Paediatrician), Senior Medical Officer was deputed to Campbell Bay on a two-week visit to treat the paediatric patients on 12th of October 2021. Dr. Gaurav during his visit treated three cases of Acute Bronchiolitis by admitting the patients in the ward.

He further diagnosed several cases of Nutritional Anaemia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-deficit Hyperactivity disorder, Bronchial Asthma in children.

A camp for the diagnosis of paediatric disorders was also organised at Gandhi Nagar during the visit of Dr. Gaurav.

The residents of Great Nicobar immensely benefited from the visit of the Paediatrician to the Island. The Paediatrician was deputed to Great Nicobar after a request by Dr. Ambedkar Dasari and the local administration. A number of cases of Paediatric fever were reported from a cluster in Campbell Bay after which the services of the Paediatrician was requested.

The visit of the Paediatrician proved to be very beneficial as many paediatric conditions/disorders which normally remains undiagnosed was diagnosed by Dr. Gaurav and the treatment was specified, which would be followed up by the local doctor.

The Health Department should depute specialists to Campbell Bay regularly so that the residents suffering from various diseases can get treatment easily without the need for travelling to Port Blair.

Great Nicobar currently has a network of two Primary Health Centres and a number of Sub-Centres that serves the health needs of the residents. The local population has been demanding to convert PHC Campbell Bay into a Community Health Centre and to depute specialists regularly to check on the health of the citizens.

Currently, patients who cannot be diagnosed and those suffering from serious diseases are referred to G.B Pant Hospital, Port Blair. It is very difficult for the patients to travel all the way to Port Blair for treatment. Regularly deputing specialists to Campbell Bay will help reduce the need for many patients to visit Port Blair and it will have a positive impact on the health of the citizens.
