Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has written back to Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands explaining the merging of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Scheme for Health Insurance (ANISHI) with Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
Dr. Harsh Vardhan in his letter has stated that Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had directed the UTs to converge their local schemes with AB PM-JAY and accordingly ANISHI scheme has been merged with AB PM-JAY on 15th August 2020 covering approximately 70% of the population of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He also added that this move has allowed the Islanders to continue receiving existing benefit as under the ANISHI scheme.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan has also brought to the notice of Shri. Ajoy Bairagi that NHA’s IT platform has been customised and deployed in the UT for implementation of the converged scheme. Other necessary activities like, on-boarding of the ISA, empanelment of hospitals and creating awareness among beneficiaries about the converged scheme have also been undertaken. He added that as on November 18 2020, 220 treatments of Rs. 27 Lakhs have been provided to the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He further added that as majority of secondary and healthcare services are availed in neighbouring States by the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, hospitals in neighbouring States/UTs have been properly sensitised about the integrated scheme through multiple stakeholder’s meetings. He also informed that the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands can avail healthcare services in 2,794 hospitals in Tamil Nadu (out of which 436 are in Chennai), 66 in West Bengal (out of which 9 are in Kolkata) and JIPMER, Puducherry empaneled under AB PM-JAY all of which are part of more than 24,000 empaneled hospitals under AB PM-JAY.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan assured Shri. Ajoy Bairagi that the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be provided best quality healthcare services under the converged scheme.
