In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the Billiground Police, under the supervision of SDPO Rangat, seized over a kilogram of methamphetamine in a meticulously planned midnight raid at Prafullya Nagar, Nimbudera. The operation, conducted in the early hours of Friday, led to the arrest of one individual involved in the illegal drug trade.

The accused, identified as Manimohan Bepari (30), son of Mr. Mukul Bepari, a resident of Prafullya Nagar, Nimbudera, was apprehended after credible information was received by the police regarding his possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine and his attempts to strike deals with potential customers.

Acting promptly on the information received at 12:20 AM, Sub-Inspector M.V. Shiju Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Billiground Police Station, informed SDPO Rangat Mr. Chandan G.S., who immediately authorized the formation of a special team for the raid.

The raiding team comprised:

The team was equipped with a drug detection kit, weighing machine, and necessary documentation. En route to the suspect’s residence, two independent witnesses were requested to accompany the team as civilian observers.

The raid commenced at around 1:10 AM. After identifying the suspect, the police informed him of the allegations and his legal rights under the NDPS Act. Despite a thorough search of his house yielding no immediate contraband, Manimohan later admitted to concealing the illicit substance in an open field near his residence, unknown to his family members.

Guided by the accused, the team recovered a golden yellow packet labeled “Guanyinwang Refined Chinese Tea”, which contained a transparent polyethylene pouch filled with a crystalline substance emitting a strong odour. Preliminary testing by Scene of Crime Officer Ms. Nasreen confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine. The seized narcotic weighed 1.063 kilograms, a commercial quantity under the NDPS Act.

The contraband was seized at 2:00 AM in the presence of the independent witnesses, following all legal procedures. Manimohan Bepari was formally arrested at 2:20 AM under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
