A 10-day special awareness campaign aimed at empowering women and educating communities on key social, legal, and health issues concluded recently in South Andaman District. The initiative was organized by the State Hub for Empowerment of Women, Directorate of Social Welfare, from 2nd to 12th September 2025.
The concluding program was held at the ANIIMS Campus, Corbyn’s Cove, with the theme “Women Empowerment through Medicine & Allied Healthcare Professional Courses.” As part of the session, Mrs. Reshma Banu, Call Operator, Women Helpline (181), informed participants about the services of the helpline, while Mrs. P. Deepa Laxmi sensitized the audience on the provisions of the POSH Act.
Throughout the campaign, diverse topics were addressed, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, gender sensitization, legal awareness, women’s safety at the workplace, sexual and reproductive health, empowering women through higher education, awareness and compliance for the POCSO Act, and women and adolescent girls’ health and nutrition.
The campaign featured community-level awareness sessions, interactive discussions, expert talks, and outreach programs. These activities were designed to sensitize women, adolescent girls, and community leaders about their rights, legal protections, and government welfare schemes.
The entire campaign was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director of Social Welfare.
