In a continued crackdown on illegal activities involving forest and wildlife produce, the South Andaman Forest Division seized and destroyed 100 litres of illicit fermented liquor, locally known as ‘Lahan’, from the Tractor Bhanj Reserve Forest area under Mathura Beat on August 9, 2025.

Acting on confidential inputs, Beat Officers from Mathura and Namunagarh jointly conducted a patrolling operation. During the raid, the team recovered and destroyed the illicit liquor on the spot. They also seized one empty iron cask, a 20-litre tin can, and a black tarpaulin used in the illegal brewing process.

Following the seizure, a case was registered against unknown offenders under relevant provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927. The confiscated items were handed over to the Camp Officer, Headquarters, Tushnabad Range, for safe custody.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Pramod Singh, Forest Ranger, Tushnabad Range. Authorities have appealed to the public to report any information on illegal forest or wildlife produce to the helpline number 03192-255228, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
