In a major win against online financial fraud, the Cyber Crime Police Station of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has achieved 100% recovery in a cyber crime case involving a resident of Wimberlygunj, restoring the full amount of ₹70,000 lost in an online flight ticket refund scam. The Andaman & Nicobar Police, on 2nd December 2025, commended PSI L. Hari Krishna and the Cyber Crime PS team for their exceptional work.

The case was registered under FIR No. 38/2025 on August 14, 2025, following a written complaint from a religious figure from Lamba Pahad, Wimberlygunj. The complainant reported that while attempting to cancel a wrongly booked flight ticket, he was misled by a YouTube advertisement video offering assistance with “flight ticket cancellation and refund services.”

Acting on the instructions shown in the video, the victim contacted a phone number displayed in the advertisement, which later redirected him to a different WhatsApp number. He was then asked to download a third-party application and enter sensitive financial information, including his SBI debit card details, UPI credentials and even his UPI PIN.

Shortly after installing the application, the victim noticed suspicious activity on his mobile device. Without entering any OTP, multiple unauthorized UPI transactions were carried out from his bank account, amounting to a total of ₹70,000 withdrawn in three separate transfers.

Realizing he had been defrauded, the complainant first lodged a report with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and later approached the Cyber Crime Police Station, where the FIR was formally registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Upon receipt of the case, PSI L. Hari Krishna and the Cyber Crime PS team initiated a prompt investigation and successfully ensured that the siphoned amount was returned to the victim.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police acknowledged the achievement in a public statement posted on their official social media platforms on 2nd December 2025, stating:

“A big shoutout to PSI L. Hari Krishna and the Cyber Crime PS team for their outstanding work in FIR No. 38/2025! 100% recovery and full restitution of ₹70,000 to the victim is a remarkable achievement. Kudos to the officer’s dedication and commitment to justice!”

With cyber frauds becoming increasingly sophisticated, the successful recovery in this case stands as a notable example of effective coordination, rapid response and determined policing in the Union Territory.
