The Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration in coordination with the District Administration recently conducted a 12 days Disaster Management Training under ‘Up-scaling Aapda Mitra Scheme’ of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman Districts. During the training, 191 community volunteers provided basic skills training for responding to their community’s immediate needs during and in the aftermath of a disaster. These trained volunteers can assist in saving lives using the basic techniques of disaster response, coordination and management.
The Director (Disaster Management), Dr. Nitin Shakya interacted with the Trained Aapda Mitra Volunteers of South Andaman District on 20th February 2023 and reviewed the skills they gained in the Disaster Management training programme. Further, the Aapda Mitras of South Andaman have been directed to prepare their own group of 15 to 20 members in their vicinity and train them to deal with any crisis/emergencies. They have also been invited to participate in the upcoming mock drills scheduled for cinema theatres and hotels, and in the ‘Swasthya Doot’ DM Training programme.
