13th Inter Village Canoe Race Championship Held at Big Lapathy Beach in Car Nicobar

13th Inter village Canoe Race Championship 2023, was held on April 10 & 11, 2023 at Big Lapathy Beach, Car Nicobar. The Canoe Race Competition was organized by the Nicobar Games & Sports Association, Car Nicobar in coordination with the District Administration, Nicobar District. 

The main function was held at Big Lapathy Beach, Car Nicobar. Mr. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mr. Manjit Sheoran, IPS, SP(N), Mr. Piyush Singh, AC (HQ), Mr. Lionald Nicomede, Chairman Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Mr. Anwar Moosa, Medical Superintendent, BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar were also present and motivated the participants.

The Car Nicobar Canoe Race is a traditional thrilling competition that pits canoe enthusiasts against one another in a challenging and exciting race. 

The race covered a distance of 3.0 Km from Chukchucha to Kinmai village. The Canoe Race, one of the most highly anticipated events in the region, witnessed competitors from across 15 villages of Car Nicobar. Total Participants: Group A -10, Group B -12. In Group A, Kinyuka was declared winner, Tamaloo obtained second position and Small Lapathy third position. In Group B, Kinyuka was declared winner, Chukchucha obtained second position and Small Lapathy third position.

Trophies and prize money was distributed to the winners by the chief guest,  Mr. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and others.

Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District stressed on the importance of indigenous cultural sports in Car Nicobar and mentioned that the District Administration will extend all support for the conduct of cultural activities and will also facilitate its wide publicity.

The District Administration had stationed a Medical team from BJR Hospital, Fire Safety team, Police and other line Departments for ensuring safety of all participants and also for the successful conduct of the event, The events concluded with a flag folding ceremony of NGSA and all participant villages.
