Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the Andaman & Nicobar Police launched a large-scale anti-poaching operation on 24th August 2025 to curb illegal activities in the vulnerable forest and coastal areas of North & Middle Andaman District.

Teams from Diglipur, Kalighat, and Mayabunder Police Stations, along with personnel from LOPs, IRBn, PMF, and APU, were swiftly mobilized to carry out intensive combing operations across sensitive stretches. The objective was to dismantle organised poaching networks that have been threatening the fragile marine ecosystem of the region.

During the sustained search, the teams made a major breakthrough by apprehending 14 Myanmarese poachers from the dense jungles of Nappi Ghope. Authorities also seized two engine-powered dinghies and around 550 kg of sea cucumbers, striking a blow to the poachers’ logistics and mobility.

The operation, which is still ongoing in remote forested stretches of the district, aims to ensure that no remnants of the poaching groups remain undetected. Officials emphasized that these actions highlight the police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding marine biodiversity and preserving ecological balance. The drive is being carried out in close coordination with other coastal security stakeholders, including the A&N Command, Forest Department, and local fishermen communities.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards poaching, the A&N Police assured the public of strict enforcement and continued vigilance to protect the Islands’ unique biodiversity.

The police have also appealed to the public to share any credible information regarding crimes or illegal activities by contacting the nearest Police Station or dialing 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and they will be suitably rewarded.
