Acting on credible inputs, the Forest Department seized 150 litres of illicitly fermented liquor, locally known as ‘Lahan’, from the New Bimblitan Reserve Forest area on Friday.

The operation, led by Ms.  Anita S. Pillai, Deputy Ranger, along with Mr. Shyam Sunder Rao and four beat mazdoors — Mr. Saurav Baroi, Mr. Loganathan, Mr. P. Papa Rao, and Mr. Randhir Soreng — resulted in the confiscation of the illicit liquor along with one iron caska and four tin cans.

A case has been registered against unknown offenders under relevant provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927. The team conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area in an attempt to gather further evidence, but no additional leads could be traced. The seized items have been handed over to the Camp Officer, Headquarters, for safe custody.

The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of the Range Officer, Garacharma Range, based on reliable information received from a confidential source.

The Forest Department has urged the public to report any information regarding illegal forest or wildlife produce by calling the helpline number 03192-255228. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
