17 Caught Gambling in Prem Nagar Raid; Over ₹61,000 Recovered

Continuing their sustained drive against unlawful activities, the South Andaman District Police conducted a raid in the Prem Nagar area on July 25, 2025, in connection with illegal gambling, resulting in the detention of 17 individuals and recovery of over ₹61,000 in cash.

Acting on credible information, a team from Police Station Aberdeen was swiftly constituted under the leadership of Inspector Vishal Ram, SHO PS Aberdeen. The team included PSI Abhishek G.S.P, Head Constable Sunil Singh Yadav, and Constables Surender Singh Yadav, Jayraj, Jagdish Babu, P. Mohd. Rafique, Surjit Das, R. Rahul Kumar, Tapan Kumar Bhattacharya, Suraj Tiwari, Arun Govind, V. Mohd. Asique, Praveen Kumar Yadav, Touseef Razack, R. Pavitra, and Dorothy.

The team raided a rented house belonging to Vijay, son of Late Babulall, located near the Telugu Church in Prem Nagar. Seventeen individuals were found actively engaged in gambling and were immediately detained for further legal action.

During the operation, a total sum of ₹61,100 was recovered — comprising ₹48,700 as stake money and ₹12,400 seized during personal searches of the individuals. All have been booked under Sections 5 and 7 of the Andaman and Nicobar Gambling Regulation, 1951.

The raid was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Ajay Kumar Rai, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (South Andaman), and overall direction of Mr. Manoj Kumar Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

The South Andaman District Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious or criminal activity through helpline number 112 or by calling 03192-232100, 236641, or 232400. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
