19-Year-Old Apprehended with Illicit Ganja in Rangat on New Year’s Day

On 1st of January 2025, a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, successfully apprehended a 19-Year-Old youth in possession of ganja near the water tank in Parnashala, Rangat.

The operation was launched after the Rangat Police received reliable information regarding an individual allegedly attempting to sell illicit ganja. Recognising the urgency of the matter, a raiding team was swiftly formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Abdul Sajeed, in-charge of PS Rangat, comprising of Head Constable Rushkeshwar Rao, Police Constables K. Samir, Yashwant Rao, Sameer Dey, and Lady Police Constable Sumitra Halder.

Two independent witnesses from the area were briefed on the situation and accompanied the team as per procedural norms. Equipped with necessary documents and an electronic weighing machine, the team reached the location and discreetly positioned themselves around the area.

The suspect was intercepted based on a signal from the informer. Following standard procedures, the raiding party conducted a personal search of the suspect in the presence of the SDPO and independent witnesses.

The search led to the discovery of 44 grams of a substance suspected to be ganja concealed in a white polythene bag in the suspect’s pocket. The substance was confirmed as ganja by the witnesses and was subsequently sealed and seized on the spot under a seizure memo.

With sufficient evidence of an offence under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, the suspect was served notice under Section 35(3) of the B.N.S.S. Act and directed to report to the Investigating Officer. The seized ganja was taken to the Rangat Police Station, where it was registered as evidence and secured in the station’s malkhana.

The swift and coordinated action by the police ensured that the illegal substance was taken off the streets, reaffirming their commitment to curbing drug-related offences in the region.
