A 19-Year-Old resident of Ward No. 3, Haddo was brutally beaten up by the staff of PS Chatham on 29th October 2022, during questioning. The boy was reportedly picked up by the team of PS Chatham for questioning without issuing any notice in a theft case.
The victim’s family has asked Nicobar Times to keep their identity confidential, however, the family will lodge a formal complaint to the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman and other senior officers of Andaman and Nicobar Police on Monday.
The victim informed that to avoid CCTV Cameras he was taken into the changing room of the Police Station and was beaten up with lathis. The marks on the boy’s body are testimony to the brutality of the police personnel involved in the incident. The boy alleged that the staff of PS Chatham also threatened him with POCSO Case.
One Police Personnel also reportedly accessed the boy’s phone and read his chats. The same Police Personnel also accessed pictures of the boy with a female friend on the boy’s phone and took some snaps of those pictures from his phone.
The boy was reportedly involved in some crimes when he was a juvenile. The mother alleged the police now picks up her son whenever they want and beats him up. The boy was also reportedly beaten up at PS Chatham four months ago.
The mother also tried to speak to the SHO of PS Chatham this morning, but the SHO reportedly refused to speak to the mother of the boy.
This afternoon the mother took her son to G.B Pant for treatment of his wounds and narrated the incident to the doctor. The mother informed that soon after many police personnel reached G.B Pant and tried to convince her to not lodge a complaint. When the mother refused to budge, one senior police officer of PS Aberdeen also spoke to her in a threatening tone.
