1st DGP Cup A&N State Open Chess Tournament Concludes: R Kasthuri Bai Emerges Victorious, Anugrah Nair Secures Runner-Up Position

The inaugural DGP Cup A&N State Open Chess Tournament 2024, jointly organised by the A&N Police in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), came to a thrilling close on Sunday, May 12th, 2024. Held at Police Lines, this landmark event witnessed two days of fierce competition, camaraderie, and a celebration of chess as a game of intellect and skill.

The closing ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary of the A&N Islands.

In a display of sheer dedication and mastery, Ms. R Kasthuri Bai emerged victorious, clinching the coveted trophy of the DGP Cup 2024. Her strategic prowess on the board showcased the pride of the islands. Mr. Anugrah Nair secured the position of the runner-up. Additionally, prizes were awarded to outstanding players across various categories, including under-11, under-17, and above-17.

Beyond the competitive spirit, the tournament served as a platform for players to sharpen their skills while fostering a sense of unity and community among participants. It underscored the role of sports in bringing people together.

Addressing the attendees in his closing remarks, the Chief Guest expressed gratitude to all participants, organisers, and supporters whose efforts contributed to the success of the tournament. He highlighted the importance of such events in promoting intellectual development, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship among the youth of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Under the adept guidance of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivatsava, DGP, ANI, and the supervision of Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, IGP, ANI, alongside the diligent efforts of Ms. Monika Bharadwaj, DIGP(APU), and Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, SP(APU), the Andaman & Nicobar Police and the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association extend their heartfelt appreciation to all participants. They eagerly anticipate future editions of the tournament, continuing the legacy of chess excellence in the Islands.
