Nicobar Times has confirmed information that more than 20 persons have been found positive at Port Blair when RT-PCR tests were conducted on them as they were intending to travel to Campbell Bay.
Majority of the persons found positive in the RT-PCR tests are labours who were intending to travel to Campbell Bay to work in the project of Border Road Organisation. It is also being reported that more people, apart from the labours, have also been found positive.
These labours according to sources had travelled from Kolkata to Port Blair recently. It is also being reported that some of the labours of the same group were also found positive for COVID-19 at Kolkata and are undergoing treatment there.
The persons found positive in the RT-PCR tests conducted for travelling to Campbell Bay have been isolated yesterday night and are under medical supervision.
This incident shows the importance of RT-PCR tests before one is allowed to travel to remote Islands like Great Nicobar. The health department and Andaman and Nicobar Administration should be lauded for their vigilant stand.
