23-Year-Old Apprehended in Campbell Bay for Possession of Illicit Ganja

Acting on a tip-off, Campbell Bay Police apprehended a 23-year-old man for possession of illicit ganja. The accused was apprehended near the CCS LPG Godown in Jetty Bazaar, Campbell Bay, following a swift operation led by SI Vinit Kumar Maurya, Officer-in-Charge of the Campbell Bay Police Station.

The police received reliable information from an informant, indicating that the accused, a resident of Indira Nagar, Campbell Bay, was carrying contraband. This information was immediately passed on to SDPO Campbell Bay, Aditya Kumar, and a team was formed to carry out the raid.

The raiding team, consisting of SI Maurya, HC C. Sanjai Kumar, PC Arputa Das, PC Bikas Sen and PC Sunitha, quickly departed to the Jetty Bazaar area with a drug detection kit and an electronic weighing machine. Upon arriving at the location, two local residents were asked to serve as witnesses during the search and seizure process. Both individuals agreed to assist the police.

The team intercepted the suspect in front of the LPG Godown. Upon questioning, the 23-year-old disclosed his identity and was informed of the police’s intention to search him and his belongings based on the information they had received.

The police then conducted the search in front of the independent witnesses. A small multicoloured paper box was found on the accused, which contained 36 grams of illicit ganja and two packets of filter tobacco. Using the drug detection kit, the substance was confirmed to be ganja. The contraband, weighing a total of 36 grams was sealed and seized on the spot in accordance with the law.

Following the completion of legal formalities, the 23-year-old was apprehended under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985, which deals with the possession of small quantities of contraband. The entire search and seizure operation was documented.
