A major drug bust was carried out in Garacharma Basti on 2nd December 2024, following a tip-off from a reliable informant. A raid by the Pahargaon police team, under the supervision of SDPO (South Andaman) Miss Anushtha Kalia, resulted in the apprehension of 27-year-old Suresh Kumar, a local resident of Garacharma Basti. The accused was found in possession of 309 grams of illicit ganja.

According to the FIR, at around 8:30 AM, officers received credible information that a person named Suresh would be dealing with a large quantity of ganja. A raiding team, led by SHO Insp. Mohd Elias, SI Manish Narayan, PC Shiv Kumar, and PC Rahul Kr. Mourya was quickly assembled.

At approximately 10:50 AM, the team reached the spot near the Church of God in Garacharma Basti. Around noon, a man fitting the description was seen carrying a light green bag and heading towards a sand heap. Upon intercepting him, the suspect was identified as Suresh Kumar. The police then informed him of the allegation and his rights under the NDPS Act.

During the search, nothing was found on Kumar’s person, but the green bag he was carrying was inspected. Inside, a polythene bag containing dry leaves was discovered. Upon smelling, both the witnesses and police officers identified the contents as ganja. The substance was tested and confirmed positive for illicit ganja using a drug detection kit.

Kumar was unable to provide any documentation or permit for possessing the substance. The total weight of the ganja was recorded at 309 grams. The seized bag was sealed and documented in the presence of the witnesses.

Following the raid, Kumar was taken to PS Pahargaon for further processing. A case has been registered under NDPS Act. This raid comes as part of ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat the growing issue of drugs in the region.
