The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, launched the 31st Round (6th Phase under the National Animal Disease Control Programme – NADCP) of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination drive on June 2, 2025. The initiative began with the ceremonial flagging off of eleven vaccination teams by Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, at a function held at the Veterinary Polyclinic, Dollygunj.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Adhikari lauded the Department’s consistent efforts toward safeguarding animal health across the islands. He emphasized the need for closer collaboration with Gram Panchayats to ensure the effective implementation of the programme at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the critical role of such vaccination drives, the Adhyaksh noted that they not only prevent the spread of contagious diseases like FMD but also play a vital role in securing the livelihoods of farmers and livestock owners. He also underlined the importance of promoting hygiene and cleanliness practices among animal husbandry farmers to further strengthen the sector.
The FMD vaccination programme is a key component of the NADCP, aimed at eradicating Foot and Mouth Disease through regular immunization of livestock.
