The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) will launch a 42-day Pashu Sakhi training program across various tehsils of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from October 15.

The initiative is aimed at empowering rural women by equipping them with skills to serve as community-based animal care providers, thereby supporting livestock farmers and strengthening local animal husbandry practices.

The training will cover a wide range of topics including animal and poultry health, nutrition, and management. Practical demonstrations and hands-on sessions have been incorporated to ensure participants gain field-level expertise. Upon completion, trainees will receive certification, enabling them to contribute directly to improving livestock productivity and health in their communities.

Officials said the program is not only expected to enhance sustainable livestock farming but also create new avenues of income for women participants. By conducting the sessions across multiple tehsils, the AH&VS Department aims to make the program accessible and encourage wider participation from rural areas.

The initiative underscores the important role of women in strengthening rural economies and promoting self-reliance through improved livestock care and productivity.
