In a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the Baratang Police seized 420 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a surprise vehicle checking drive at South Creek on Saturday.

The operation, led by SI Subramani, SHO PS Baratang, along with HC G. Madhav Rao and PCs M. Ashok Kumar, Suresh Kumar, and Servai, was carried out as part of the police’s intensified efforts to curb the transportation and sale of illicit liquor in the region.

During the checking, the team intercepted a suspicious vehicle and, upon inspection, recovered 420 bottles of IMFL being transported illegally. The person in possession of the consignment was identified as V. Duraichamy (47), a private worker and resident of School Line near Shiv Temple, Sri Vijaya Puram.

Police said the accused failed to produce any valid permit or license authorising the transportation or possession of such a large quantity of liquor. Consequently, the liquor consignment and the vehicle used for transportation were seized on the spot, and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation at Police Station Baratang.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the seized liquor.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating illegal liquor activities across the islands through continuous checking drives, surprise raids, and targeted enforcement measures.

The public has been urged to report any information regarding illegal activities or crimes to their nearest police station or by calling 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Police assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and suitably rewarded.
