45 SHG Members Participate in Two-Day Block Mela at Wimberlygunj, Generate ₹2.10 Lakh in Sales

A two-day Self Help Group (SHG) Block Mela was organised by the CD Block Ferrargunj in coordination with the Wimberlygunj Gram Panchayat at the Wimberlygunj Mini Stadium, aimed at providing market exposure to SHGs and strengthening their livelihood opportunities.

The mela was inaugurated by Ms. D. Padmawathi, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj, as the chief guest in the presence of PRI members, elected representatives, SHG members, and officials of the Block Administration.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. D. Padmawathi, along with Ms. Lalita Tigga, BDO Ferrargunj, Mr. Ram Babu, Pradhan, Wimberlygunj, and Mr. P. Basheer, Pradhan, Kanyapuram, highlighted the significant role played by SHGs in promoting women empowerment, self-employment, and sustainable rural livelihoods. They encouraged members to focus on improving product quality, packaging, and collective marketing to expand their reach and income.

A total of 45 members representing 39 SHGs actively participated in the mela, showcasing a diverse range of products prepared using locally available resources. The stalls featured handicrafts made from cane, bamboo, seashell, and coconut shell, along with ornamental plants, processed food items, and homemade delicacies. The event provided SHG members with a valuable platform to interact directly with customers, understand market demand, and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

During the two-day event, SHGs generated total sales amounting to ₹2,10,000, reflecting a strong public response and the growing market potential of locally produced goods. The earnings significantly boosted the confidence and motivation of the participating members.

On the concluding day, trophies were presented to various SHGs in appreciation of their active participation. Prizes were also awarded in different categories, including handicrafts, food items, and plants, to recognise creativity, quality, and innovation among the groups.
