In accordance with the schedule of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC), Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court at Port Blair, in association with the Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority, conducted the 4th National Lok Adalat on Saturday at the Circuit Bench Complex here.
The Lok Adalat Bench was presided over by Hon’ble Justice Shampa Dutt (Paul), Judge of the Calcutta High Court, presently sitting at the Circuit Bench in Port Blair. The Bench was assisted by Mr. D. Ilango, learned Advocate, who served as a Member of the Lok Adalat Bench.
During the proceedings, the Bench made earnest and sincere efforts to facilitate amicable settlements in the matters listed before it, in keeping with the fundamental objectives of Lok Adalats—providing expeditious, cost-effective and consensual resolution of disputes. A total of four cases were taken up during the session, of which three were successfully disposed of through mutual settlement.
The conduct of the National Lok Adalat reflects the continued commitment of the legal services institutions to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and enhance access to justice. Such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing litigation burden and ensuring timely justice, particularly for residents of remote and geographically isolated regions like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
