In a significant step towards modernising agriculture in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Department of Agriculture has announced a 50% subsidy—up to a maximum of ₹30,000 per beneficiary—on the purchase of Carbon Fibre Telescopic Harvesters under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) for the year 2025–26.

The initiative aims to equip island farmers with modern and efficient harvesting tools that enhance productivity while ensuring safety. The Carbon Fibre Telescopic Harvester, made from lightweight and rust-resistant carbon fibre, is particularly suited for the islands’ humid tropical climate. Its telescopic design enables farmers to harvest fruits directly from the ground, eliminating the risks associated with climbing trees.

The adoption of such tools would significantly reduce labour requirements and harvesting time, helping farmers boost their income and operational efficiency.

Farmers owning a minimum of 0.10 hectare of agricultural land are eligible to avail the subsidy under this scheme. Application forms can be obtained from the nearest Agriculture Sub-Depot or Zonal Office.

For additional information or assistance, farmers may contact the nearest Agriculture Sub-Depot/Zonal Agriculture Office or reach out to the Kisan Call Centre at 03192-243434 or the toll-free number 1800-345-1145. (Story Based on PR)
