In a heartening boost to marine conservation efforts in North & Middle Andaman, 61 hatchlings of the Olive Ridley sea turtle were safely guided into the sea at Turtle Beach, Karmatang, under the supervision of the Mayabunder Forest Division on February 24.

The carefully coordinated release was carried out by forest officials, ensuring the tiny hatchlings made their journey from nest to sea safely. The event drew enthusiastic participation from school children and teachers, along with officials from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Heads of various line departments, and members of the general public.

The programme served not only as a conservation activity but also as an awareness initiative, underscoring the importance of community participation in protecting marine biodiversity. Students were sensitized to the ecological significance of sea turtles and the need to safeguard fragile coastal and marine ecosystems.

Officials highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in inspiring young minds to take active responsibility in conserving marine life and preserving the rich natural heritage of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
