Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded 97 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours according to the latest Health Bulletin released by Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Out of the 97 new cases 85 are contact cases and 12 cases are from among those who travelled to Port Blair by air. 01 COVID-19 related death was also reported from the Islands today.

Total active case tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has risen to 205. The test positivity rate has climbed to 1.62%.

The situation in the Islands are alarming but citizens are still seen flouting the COVID norms openly in markets. Nicobar Times found the Vegetable Market at Haddo near PS Chatham crowded with people. While police were strictly enforcing the COVID Protocols, citizens were still seen getting close to each other.

Not following COVID norms like wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing will only make the COVID situation in the Islands more grim. Citizens need to understand that following all norms is important for their own safety.

Wearing face masks and cover properly and maintaining adequate distance from one another is the need of the hour.

All three districts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has announced additional restrictions to curb the rising number of COVID-19 cases. All non-essential services have been ordered to shut. Most essential services will only operate between 6 Am to 1 Pm.

Nicobar Times urges all citizens living in the Islands to follow all COVID-19 related norms and to only venture out when its unavoidable. Stock up on supplies at once if possible and do not visit crowded markets and areas.
