Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, during the Parakram Diwas celebration organized at Port Blair on 23rd January 2023, laid the foundation stone of a new memorial honouring the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The memorial will be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep. PM unveiled the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji. Netaji stayed on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep (the then Ross Island) during his visit to A & N Islands in December 1943. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the first tri-colour on Indian Soil at Port Blair, A & N islands on 30th December 1943.
Keeping in mind the historical significance of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and to honour the memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Ross Islands was renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island by the Prime Minister during his visit to the Island in 2018.
The development at NSCB Island will include a Museum-Cum-Interpretation Center, a cable car or ropeway, a Laser and Sound Show, a guided heritage trail through the Island’s historical buildings, a theme-based Children’s Amusement Park, and a Food and Resto Lounge. These additions will enhance visitors’ experience on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island and give them a deeper understanding of its rich history.
A & N Administration has invited suggestions, ideas and opinions from the general public to develop the Netaji Memorial on NSCB Island. The suggestions and ideas may be emailed to cellularjailandaman@gmail.com within ten days.
