In a major employment initiative, the fourth round of the Nationwide Grand Rozgar Mela was held on 29th October 2024, across 40 locations in India. With over 51,000 government job offers extended to selected candidates nationwide, Andaman and Nicobar Islands emerged as the leading location, with 1,044 offers distributed to successful candidates in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering across all participating locations via video conference, officially launching the disbursement by pressing a remote button that activated the Offer of Appointments for over 51,000 candidates. His virtual address underscored the government’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities across diverse regions of India.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands not only topped this year’s event but also led in job offerings during the 1st and 3rd Rozgar Melas, further affirming the region’s remarkable participation and success in government recruitment efforts.

At the local event, Mr. Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal & Mines, served as the Chief Guest, with Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Dubey praised the government under PM Modi’s leadership for providing employment opportunities, noting that of the 1,044 candidates from Andaman and Nicobar Islands who received job offers, 532 were women and 512 were men. He highlighted this as a sign of progress, with women achieving parity with men in government employment. He also commended the transparent selection process and acknowledged the natural beauty and clean air quality of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, in his address, appreciated the recruitment transparency within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and acknowledged the Chief Secretary’s leadership. He expressed his disappointment at being initially omitted from the list of scheduled speakers but assured that he would commend the Administration’s efforts in Parliament for conducting a fair recruitment process. However, he also took the opportunity to critique certain administrative failures, signalling areas for improvement.

In the absence of regular Chief Secretary Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Mr. A.S.P.S. Raviprakash, Chief Secretary (in charge), represented the A & N Administration at the event. Following the Prime Minister’s address, local officials began distributing the appointment letters to successful candidates.

The 4th Grand Rozgar Mela marks yet another milestone in the government’s mission to expand opportunities for youth and promote inclusive growth across all regions.
