A landmark moment is on the horizon for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as their Para-Athletics team gears up for a groundbreaking debut at the Khelo India Para Games 2023. Scheduled to unfold from December 10th to 17th in New Delhi, this marks the very first time the A&N Islands will be represented at this prestigious event. Athletes from the Islands will participate in seven sporting disciplines during the event.
In a heartening send-off ceremony held at the Netaji Stadium Sports Complex, Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Sports), along with Mr. Aditya Kumar Jha, Director (Sports), bestowed their blessings upon the four talented athletes selected to represent the islands. The athletes, namely Ms. M. Bhavani, Ms. B. Albakka, Ms. Prachi Toppo, and Ms. C. Nisheta Anand, received words of encouragement and well-wishes for their upcoming endeavour.
Adding to the encouragement, Secretary (Sports) and Director (Sports) personally handed over sports kits to the para-athletes, ensuring they are fully equipped and prepared for the competitive arena that awaits them.
The journey towards this momentous event commenced on December 7th, 2023, as the team embarked on their trip to Delhi, carrying with them not just aspirations but the pride and hopes of the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands community.
This inaugural participation in the Khelo India Para Games signifies a significant leap forward for para-athletics in the region, highlighting the dedication and talent of these exceptional athletes. As they set foot on this national stage, they represent not only themselves but also serve as inspiring ambassadors for inclusivity and sportsmanship.
