A & N Police Destroys Rs. 475 Crore Worth of Seized Drugs in Major Disposal Event

In a significant step towards combating drug abuse, the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Police destroyed a substantial quantity of seized drugs worth approximately Rs. 475 crores. The mass drug disposal event was organized in observance of the “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” and followed directives from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal vs. Union of India and the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules (Seizure, Storage, Sampling, and Disposal), 2022.

The event commenced at 11:30 AM under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee, chaired by Ms. Varsha Sharma, IPS, DIGP (L&O). The committee included prominent members such as Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, SP(CID), Mr. Mohd. Irshad Haider, IPS, SP(HQ), and Mr. Kumar Abhishek, DANIPS, Dy.SP (CID). Representatives from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Enviro Check (for measuring emitted pollutants), and GB Pant Hospital also participated in the supervision.

A total of 61 case properties were destroyed, comprising:

– 238.416 kg of Methamphetamine

– 67.636 kg of Ganja

– 1.060 kg of Cocaine

– 21 Cannabis Plants

– 76 grams of Charas

– 546 bottles of Codeine-based syrup

– 553 tablets of Alprazolam

The drugs are being incinerated over a two-day period at the incinerator located in G.B. Pant Hospital. The entire destruction process was recorded on video and completed in accordance with all legal procedures.

Andaman and Nicobar Police’s rigorous efforts to combat drug abuse are noteworthy. This drug disposal exercise underscores their commitment to creating a drug-free community and realizing the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat.”
