In a move aimed at revolutionizing law enforcement training and grooming the next generation of community-oriented officers, the Andaman and Nicobar Police Department has launched the Student Police Experiential Learning (SPEL) Programme. This groundbreaking initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Andaman Nicobar Administration, is set to transform the landscape of law enforcement education in the region.
Under the leadership of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, and the supervision of Mr. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Principal of PTS Prothrapur, the SPEL Programme is being rolled out across various police stations including PS Aberdeen, Pahargaon, Chatham, Humfrigunj, Ograbraj, Bambooflat, and Mayabunder.
The programme is meticulously designed to provide participating students with a comprehensive understanding of policing principles and practices. It offers immersive learning experiences covering a wide array of essential aspects of law enforcement, including:
– Basic functioning of police stations
– Law and order maintenance
– General policing procedures
– Community-centric and technology-based policing strategies
– Basics of criminal law and procedural protocols
– Practical exercises in writing First Information Reports (FIRs) and crime scene investigations
– Traffic management
– Awareness about crimes against women, drug abuse, and human trafficking
The SPEL Programme is a collaborative effort between the Andaman and Nicobar Police Department and educational institutions (Colleges), offering students a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the complexities of law enforcement operations. Through hands-on training, mentorship from experienced officers, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies, participants will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ethical principles necessary for effective policing.
This initiative serves as a cornerstone in cultivating the next generation of proficient and community-oriented officers.
