In a continued effort to combat drug-related crimes and bolster their investigative capabilities, the Andaman & Nicobar Police, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), conducted a comprehensive training-cum-workshop session on “Financial Investigation and Reasons for Acquittal in NDPS Cases.” The three-hour program aimed at equipping supervisory and investigating officers of the A&N Police with essential skills and knowledge took place on September 9, 2023, at the Conference Hall of the Police Training School in Prothrapur.
Led by a team of seasoned officers from NCB, with Mr. Rakesh Chandra Shukla, Zonal Director of Kolkata Zone, NCB, at the forefront, the workshop drew participants from various ranks within the A&N Police, ranging from Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySsP) to Head Constables (HCs).
The primary objective of the workshop was to empower A&N Police personnel with a deeper understanding of the critical aspects of financial investigations and the reasons for acquittal in cases falling under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During the session, Mr. Shukla, along with Mr. Samiran Paul, Superintendent at NCB, Kolkata, delivered enlightening lectures that covered topics such as the procedural intricacies of financial investigations, the freezing and attachment of illegally acquired assets by narcotics offenders, the protocol for seizures and raids under the NDPS Act, and an in-depth analysis of the mandatory provisions of the Act contributing to acquittals in NDPS cases.
The workshop garnered significant participation, with over 70 officers and personnel representing various Police Stations and Units of the A&N Police attending both in-person and online. The commitment of the A&N Police to rid the Andaman & Nicobar Islands of the drug menace was underscored by this initiative, reinforcing their dedication to the cause.
