The Andaman and Nicobar Police on January 30, 2026 implemented the Special Grade designations announced earlier, as an interim measure to recognise merit, experience and long years of dedicated service within the force.
Under the initiative, 1,387 Constables who completed 15 years of service along with the first Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) were granted the designation of Head Constable (Special Grade). In addition, 239 Head Constables who completed 25 years of service, including five years as Head Constable with first and second MACP, were designated as Assistant Sub-Inspector (Special Grade).
To mark the implementation, pipping ceremonies were held simultaneously across all Police Units and Districts of the Union Territory. Senior police officers presided over the ceremonies and congratulated the personnel on their professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty.
The Andaman and Nicobar Police fraternity expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, and Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, for their continued support and commitment towards the welfare and morale of police personnel.
